3D TV sets need some rethinking
If you were during those days when a television came with a knob and an antenna on top for tuning it in the right way to catch your beloved show, or if it was a rainy day you couldn’t watch your show till the cable guy came to fix it, then you might want to wake up for a bit and think about what the world is indulging itself in today. 3D TV sets are now available for prices that will allow more than eight hundred thousand homes around the world to own them by the end of this year. Within a few years this number will significantly rise to five million and counting and this is only the prediction, it can definitely be more. So if you were always used to going to a theater to watch 3D movies in those glasses that they gave you, you might be in for a shocker to know that you can actually watch it all in 3D from your home itself and football matches will never be the same again.
The major hype around this 3D ready television started ever since the release of the film ‘Avatar’ and after people
thought about how amazing it would be to watch all that from their own homes and own TV sets. However, the problem is that even though these TV sets are going to get sold like hotcakes and if we consider that there will be indeed eight hundred thousand households worldwide with these TVs then there will hardly be hundred thousand homes which will actually be watching 3D shows on it, this is quite a dismal figure considering the vast number of these sets already being sold. The primary reason for this gap is going to be the fact that most people who are buying these TV sets do not actually know or fail to realize that there are in fact special subscription packages and set top boxes that are required for one to watch these 3D shows on it and they might not have access to these. There are also going to a great percentage of consumers who will be more interested in watching the 3D DVDs through this TV and playing 3D games rather than watching television shows on the set.
This is something similar that had happened in 2006 with the arrival of the High Definition television during the time of the World Cup when viewers realized too late that they needed all the right equipment to be able to view the matches in High Definition on their TV sets.
