The British are spending more time online than ever before
Well who didn’t know that they are spending a lot more time online than they did a couple of years back or even a couple of months back, but recent studies show that you are probably spending more time online than you think or you know. According these research, the British are spending twenty four hours or a day in one month on the internet, which is more than sixty percent more time on the internet than it used to be even three years ago. Also, all this time on the internet is majorly spent on social networking websites like MySpace and Facebook etc. This survey and research was carried out by UKOM which stands for United Kingdom Online Measurement Company.
So the other funny thing which is of course directly related to this sudden burst of online activity in the UK is that instant messaging has greatly reduced, and this has happened in exactly the same time period that the online activity has increased for users. Even three years ago, the time that an average Brit spent text messaging must have been about fifteen percent of their time, now that degree of time has dropped to only five percent.
Also, at the same time use of email has also increased. So earlier that is three years prior to this, out of all the time that a Brit spent online, 6.5 percent of this was spent sending and receiving emails and now that time has increased to 7.2 percent which is definitely a rise in the past few years. So out of all the time that a Brit spends online the maximum amount of time is definitely spent on social networking sites or even blogs (more than twenty percent of the time), the other major area where one’s online activity is concentrated seems to be on Emails and games, games seem to occupy 6.9 percent of all the online time for a person. There are some other places where this online activity is used up as well which includes Portals, Search engines, Classifieds and Auctions as well.
One can only wonder whether this kind of a surge in online activity can mean good things or bad, whether this is a sign that we humans are now technologically advanced or does this mean that we are depending too much on electronic help for entertainment and information and also to connect with our friends. Whatever the next step is, we have to start taking notice of what these studies tell us.
