Call of Duty: Black Ops to cause a stir?
Everyone knows about Call of Duty, probably one of the biggest games franchise in the world, well the newest part in the mammoth series that started way back in 2003, Call of Duty: Black Ops which is set for release at the beginning of November could possibly throw up another banana skin like the ‘No Russian’ airport slaughter level in Modern Warfare 2. Let’s hope not after the reaction Medal of Honour got from the UK’s Secretary of Defence after he learned that you could play as the Taliban.
One thing that is set to disappoint fans before the game is even released is the news that there is to be no Campaign Co-op in Black Ops. Talking about the game, Executive producer, Dan Suarez said: “There’s no campaign co-op this year.” However, before you start slagging off the game, Treyarch community boss, Josh Olin has said that there is more still to come from the game on the co-op front.
Treyarch are the makers of Call of Duty 3 and Call of Duty World at War, and again they have been given the reins to take charge of the latest game in the series, Black Ops. There have been a number of in-game locations confirmed as well. GAME, the biggest retailer of games consoles and games in the UK have confirmed that the majority of the action will take place in the Arctic, Vietnam and Cuba. So we could see some sneaking about with a rather deadly sniper rifle in the arctic, or some guerrilla fighting in the humidity of Vietnam and Cuba.
Talking to community manager Josh Olin, when asked about the possibility of another upset like the ‘No Russian – airport massacre’ level he replied: “It’s tough to say. It is a mature themed game for mature audiences and we’re not shying away from the brutality or grittiness of war. Capturing that level of authenticity and realism is important in trying to immerse the players. Anything we do will be to propel the story or elicit an emotional response from the player, to make them feel angry or righteous or sad. Those are all elements that help immerse the player that much more deeply into the world.”
So on reflection of that comment, all I can say is that it isn’t exactly denial from Josh Olin so I suppose all that’s left to say is, you’ll have to see for yourself when the game comes out!
