Police force cars to get £1.5m gadget upgrade

Gadgets are certainly not simply for entertainment of course they can catch crooks too! And this is definitely why Hampshire Police force are investing £1.5m to assist patrol officers out and about.
The revolutionary in-car gizmo will supply officials with access to their own computers while on the move, with police force chiefs granting 159 mobile data terminals to get installed in patrol vehicles intended for phase one of the brand new roll-out.
The enormous expenses are expected to raise several eyebrows – like almost all public spending does, however the force state the spending will be a good investment, saving £2.1m every year along with officers spending more time on patrol instead of the station.
All these brand new bits of car technology will permit officers access to applications which operate on their desktop personal computers while away from the police station – plus a bit of fun no doubt whilst sat at traffic lights or US-style stake-outs!
A local Labour MP said: “There is risk with this, but I think there is always a risk when investing in efficiencies that it won’t result in the savings which were first thought.”
A spokesman for Hampshire Police Authority said the devices would enable officers to lessen unnecessary journeys to police stations to accomplish administrative tasks.
Councillor Adrian Collett, vice-chair of Hampshire Police Authority, said: “We are very pleased to enable officers to be more visible to our local communities by undertaking work out in the field that would previously have had to be carried out at a station.”
