Spotify: I Want to Break Free

Spotify have today, just announced that they are going to be cutting down the time that you’re allocated in their free service. So for any of you avid Spotify users out there you should probably start looking for a Spotify alternative pretty quickly as these changes are set to take effect from the beginning of May.

The proposed changes to the Spotify Free service are set to start on May 1st for anyone who has signed up to their services on, or before the 1st of November 2010. If you signed up to their services after this date then you will be affected 6 months on from when you signed up.

It’s not good enough really when you consider that they are only allowing 20 hours a month to the Spotify Open users. There are a lot of disgruntled people on Spotify’s blog saying how they are going to be going back to pirating. A few people are touting a possible iTunes/Spotify link up but we can’t really see this happening, basically it means that other free music providers will be seeing an increase in users; sites such as Grooveshark or Deezer will be seeing an increase.

There are obviously a lot of people around who have a Spotify Premium account but will you really be joining the paid-for service when you can go to other free music providers who offer what Spotify Premium offer for no cost? I mean essentially all that you’re paying for with Spotify Premium is an advert free music streaming service. Think about it, is it worth it when you can just join somewhere like Grooveshark for free…
