Our answers:
- Does Mozbot show exactly the same results as Google? [back to top]
Yes, exactly, the results on the Mozbot search engine are identical to those that you would get if you did the same search on
Google.
- Why launch Mozbot if it reproduces Google? Why not simply use Google? [back to top]
Whilst Mozbot uses the same results as Google, it also adds a number functions that we think our users will find useful. To help explain this, we have prepared a page that lists the main differences between Mozbot and Google which you will find at:
http://www.mozbot.co.uk/differences.html
- What is the source of the information displayed on Mozbot? [back to top]
The Mozbot search engine gets its information from the following partners:
- Web search results and sponsored links from Google.
- "Synonyms" and "definitions" from L'aventure Multimedia
- "Recent searches" and "Statistics" from Mozbot
- Screen thumbnails from Open Thumbshots
- Website information from Alexa
Than you Raphaël Defossez for the logo and its variants…

- Can I ask that the information ("info" link) on my site is not shown or is changed? [back to top]
Yes, of course. This data is supplied by our partner Alexa who has a suspension and/or change procedure for this information which you will find at:
http://pages.alexa.com/exec/faqsidos/help/index.html?index=5
- Can I add Mozbot to the list of search engines that can be accessed from the Firefox address bar? [back to top]
Yes, a plug-in has been developed for this purpose (a thousand thanks this time to Philippe Combet, who created this tool and sent it to us) which is available from:
http://mycroft.mozdev.org/download.html?name=mozbot&submitform=Find+search+plugins
- How do I use Mozbot as my navigator's home page? [back to top]
In Internet Explorer: click on the link called "make Mozbot my home page" on the website's home page.
In Firefox:
1. Select Options from the Tools menu….
2. A window opens, click on the General icon on the left.
3. Type http://www.mozbot.co.uk/ in the Home page field
4. Click on OK.
- How do I open a result in a Firefox tab? [back to top]
You can open a link from a Mozbot results page in a Firefox tab by:
- Keeping the "Ctrl" key pressed at the same time as you click on the link (PC Windows).
- Keeping the "Apple" key pressed at the same time as you click on the link (Macintosh).
If you use a mouse with a wheel, you can get the same result by clicking on the central wheel...
- Who owns Mozbot? [back to top]
Three companies have developed and maintain the search engine. For further information, visit:
http://www.mozbot.co.uk/about.html
- How can I keep up to date with events at Mozbot? [back to top]
The best way is to read our blog (http://blog.mozbot.fr/) - in french, sorry... - which will keep you informed of all the new stuff that we want to install – and we have lots that we have not yet shown you ...
Be sure to include our RSS feed (http://blog.mozbot.fr/atom.xml) in your usual reader so as to receive fresh information as soon as it appears.
- What are the Mozbot advanced search terms? [back to top]
As a general rule, Mozbot uses all the Google search terms. You can find a description of them at:
http://www.mozbot.co.uk/syntaxe-en.html
- Can I display more than 10 results per page with Mozbot? [back to top]
No, not at present but this function is planned for the next version of the engine. Be patient :-)
- Does Mozbot use Google Web APIs? [back to top]
No, we don't use the Google Web APIs (http ://www.google.com/apis/) for our Web results and AdWords (sponsored links). We have signed a specific partnership contract with Google and we therefore mine the information that we display directly ifrom the engine"s live index.
- What is the exclusion list? [back to top]
The exclusion list is a list of sites that you create as and when you use the search engine by clicking on the "Exclude this site" link available on every result displayed. Once the "Exclude this site" link has been clicked, all the pages of the corresponding site will be excluded from future searches.
- Why do my results pages have less than 10 results? [back to top]
If the Mozbot results page has less than 10 results, there are two main reasons for this:
- We group pages meeting the search criteria that come from the same website ("clustering"). You can however display a second page from the same site by clicking on the "More results for this site" link to the right of the symbol when there is one
.
- Pages from sites on your exclusion list are not displayed. The results page will, as a consequence, display fewer results...
- How can I correct a mistake I made when excluding a site? [back to top]
Don"t worry. On the home page, click on the Personalize pictogram (http://www.mozbot.co.uk/prefs). This will take you to your personal administration interface screen where, amongst other thing, you can add, change or remove sites from your exclusion list.
- Why is the page thumbnail for my site out of date? [back to top]
We use thumbnails of your pages provided by the “Open Thumbshots Project”, which provide thumbnails of pages from websites included in the Open Directory listing. The Open Thumbshots Project aims to update its database every month (see their FAQs on this topic). If you think that it is too much time has elapsed without your screen shots being updated following significant changes to the pages, you can advise them of this at:
http://www.thumbshots.org/
- Why does my site not have a thumbnail? [back to top]
If your website appears on the Mozbot results page without an associated thumbnail, its because it is not included in the Open Directory listing or because it has only recently been added or because your site has not been listed by the Open Thumbshots Project. You can get further information from:
http://www.thumbshots.org/
- What should I do if I don't want a thumbnail to appear for my site? [back to top]
If you don"t want your website thumbnail to appear in the Mozbot results, place this meta-tag in your web pages:
<META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOTHUMBSHOTS">
For further information, visit the Open Thumbshots Project website at:
http://www.thumbshots.org/faq.pxf
- How do I contact you? [back to top]
You can send a message using our contact form, which you will find on:
http://www.mozbot.co.uk/contact.html
- What has happened to Reacteur? [back to top]
Reacteur was the old name for Mozbot. This name was very French so we have changed our name to Mozbot, which is more international. In fact, several versions specific to different countries will eventually be available...
- How can I get my site listed on Mozbot? [back to top]
There are several ways of getting your site to appear on Mozbot results pages:
* Sponsored links: you will appear in prime position by placing bids on your preferred key words. Contact our partner Google for further information on this subject. Contact Google about this.
* Web links: our partner Google provides these links. If you are listed on Google, you will automatically appear on Mozbot. To get listed on Google, you can use their submission form which you will find at: .
http://www.google.com/addurl/
- My site has changed, how do I let you know? [back to top]
You don't need to worry. If your site has been changed recently, spiders from our partner Google will soon visit you and update the information in our database. This takes only a few weeks in most cases. Therefore, you have nothing to do when you change your site. Everything is done automatically and all it needs is, sometimes, a bit of patience…:-)
- How can I get my site removed from Mozbot? [back to top]
Here again, Mozbot uses Google"s results so you have to follow our partner"s procedure which you will find at:
http://www.google.com/webmasters/
