Google planning further Nexus phones?

Google Nexus S2 – hints dropped for device on the horizon

Hinting that it will be adding to the Nexus range, as Google brings out the latest version of the Android for smartphones.

Both the Google Nexus S and Nexus One have been updated to Android 2.3.3, and as part of that update Google moved to shed light on the reasons behind getting rid of the Facebook contact integration from the ecosystem to Engadget.

“We are removing the special-case handling of Facebook contacts on Nexus S and future lead devices.”

Future lead devices- Are the search engine planning to push the Nexus range in the future? Google said they had no plans at present.

Will the Nexus 3 be next up?

CEO Eric Schmidt previously said, the Nexus line was dead after the launch of the Nexus One, but then went back on that promise with the launch of the Nexus S at the end of 2010.

It makes sense for Google to keep collaborating with handset producers to create base specifications for new versions of Android, and more Nexus phones in the future seem likely for the release of Android 2.4 or Android 3.1.

Lead devices do not mean they will be exclusively Google branded – new phones from other manufacturers, like the Motorola Milestone, can be launch-pads for new versions of Android – but given the way Google is intending to form its own future, we wouldn’t be surprised to see new Nexus phones on the cards.
