Chillingo make gaming history…
Many of you may or may not know that last night was the gaming BAFTA awards. For those of you who don’t know and who are sat wondering to yourself then I can tell you, as some people may have guessed it’s exactly the same as the normal BAFTA awards but it’s for games, not films.
So with the new Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood game dominating the nominations you would expect the game to have gotten more than one award like they did. Receiving the most awards last night was one of the most hyped up games of last year. An EA game, Heavy Rain was the biggest winner at the awards last night pulling in 3 awards. One award for the “Technical Innovation” category, one for the “Story” category and one for the “Original Music” category. There were also some awards for Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit with the award for Best Multiplayer game, F1 2010 with the award for Best Sports game, Call of Duty; Black Ops winning the GAME award for 2010 and the big one, Mass Effect 2 winning the award for Best Game.
One shock on the night was the winner of the Handheld category. Mobile phone games producer Chillingo’s game Cut the Rope won this category, which to be quite frank is amazing considering it had competition from some PSP games and some Nintendo DS but the iPhone game developers saw off all of the other competition and won the award for best handheld game.
This just shows how dominant some of the mobile games are becoming with the likes of Angry Birds becoming extremely popular and loads of people have been downloading it as well as other games such as Tiny Wings, which a lot of people think is like Angry Birds but it’s actually nothing like it at all.
After this, all we have to say is watch out Sony and Nintendo, the mobile phone games are coming to get you!
