    Indie Games Developers are hosting a “Candy Jam” in an attempt to stop Candy Crush Saga-creators, King from trademarking the word “Candy”.

    The Candy Jam, as explained on their website, is a call for app developers to flood the App Store with apps that violate the trademark because (in their own words)

    “TRADEMARKING COMMON WORDS IS RIDICULOUS, BECAUSE ETHICS MATTER AND BECAUSE IT GIVES US AN OCCASION TO MAKE ANOTHER GAME JAM”

    At the time of writing this there have been 279 Candy-based games submitted to the App Store. Apps such as Chaos in Candyland, The Saga of Crushing Candy and personal favourite Candy Crush Sega.

    The Candy Jam site goes on to say that;

    Unfortunately, King is not bad at only one thing : King clone games while making millions over it. King bullies smaller game devs. King use curious monetization tactics. King is disingenuous enough to say that “The banner Saga”, a game about vikings and well… sagas, is a “deceptive” name. All of this screams unethical behaviour.

    The trademark has been approved in Europe and in currently waiting for approval in the US.
